Use With WordPerfect 5.1

Many of our braille users report that they use WordPerfect more
than any other application program. We recognize that this puts
WordPerfect in a special category and have therefore provided a
special WordPerfect environment file with Screen Power. You
don't need to know anything about environments to use them,
though.

This environment file has comprehensive settings, including many
special Screen Power capabilities, such as hotkeys, windows,
monitors, and macros created specifically for WordPerfect. All
you need to do to use the environment is to load the environment
file. There are two easy ways to do this, either from the DOS
command line or using Screen Power's menu system.

Note: The environment uses WordPerfect's default screen
          colors and settings.

Loading the WordPerfect Environment from DOS

The WordPerfect 5.1 environment filename is WP.SPB. To load
this file from the DOS command line, use our special utility
program called SPBLOAD. It enables you to load your
environments without going into the menu system:

1. Go to the Screen Power directory (usually \SPB).

2. Type the following (without quotes): "SPBLOAD WP" (you do
not need to specify the file extension)

You can load the file from the root (or another) directory by
including the proper path. For example, if the WordPerfect
environment file is in the \SPB directory, you should type:
"SPBLOAD \SPB\WP"

Loading the WordPerfect Environment from the Menu

You can also load your environment from the Screen Power menu
system:

1. Activate the menu system by pressing CTRL-V.

2. From the Main Menu, press G to go into Global Options.

3. Select F for File Options.

4. Select E for Environment Options.

5. Select L to Load an environment. Screen Power shows "Enter
    filename."

6. You can either type the name of the environment here or use
the DOWN ARROW key to move through the available
environments. If you want to type the name here, simply
type the two letters: WP. You do not need to specify the
extension, because all Screen Power environments have the
extension SPB. If you use the DOWN ARROW, Screen Power
will show the name of the environment. When you get to
    WP.SPB, press the ENTER key.

Note: The DOWN ARROW key will only display files that
are in the current directory. If your
environment file is in a different directory, you
must enter the filename and path directly.

7. Once the environment is loaded, you can press CTRL-Q to exit
    the menu system.

How the Environment Works

The WordPerfect environment includes many hotkeys (customized
commands). Some of the hotkeys activate windows or monitors.
Some activate macros that, in turn, activate other macros. We
will not describe the contents or format of these hotkeys,
windows, monitors, and macros here. This chapter will describe
what the WordPerfect functions will do when the WordPerfect
environment is loaded.

Spell Checking (CTRL-F2)

When you press CTRL-F2 to activate WordPerfect's spell checker,
you need to be able to read the misspelled word highlighted at
the top of the page and the alternate spelling choices at the
bottom of the page. Here's what happens:

When you press CTRL-F2, the braille display jumps to the
beginning of line 25 for you. Here you select word, page,
     document, etc.

When you make that selection, Screen Power shows the
misspelled word as the first word on the braille display.
To jump to the first word in the list of corrections, press
ALT-2. Once you've jumped to the list, you can move the
display around to see other corrections.

When you select a lettered correction, WordPerfect advances
to the next misspelled word and shows it on the braille
     display.

When you are done and ready to exit, Screen Power shows line
25 to you. This line contains the prompts when you exit
     spell checking.

You may have some questions:

Q: How do I read the status line?

A: Press ALT-9. We have set a special window, Window 9, to
always show the status line. We set a hotkey, ALT-9, to jump
the display to the beginning of Window 9 from anywhere in
    WordPerfect.

Q: How do I re-read the misspelled word?

A: Press ALT-1. This causes Screen Power to jump back to Window
1, which shows only red background text in lines 1 through 11.

List Files (F5)

When you press F5, ENTER to read your file list, Screen Power
will only show the highlighted filename and its information. As
you use the cursor keys to move through the list, Screen Power
shows only each newly selected file information.

To read the options at the bottom of the screen, press ALT-
SPACEBAR. This moves the braille display to the first menu item.

To read or follow the highlighted file again, press ALT-5 to read
window 5.

Reveal Codes (ALT-F3 or F11)

When you activate Reveal Codes, WordPerfect divides the screen in
half vertically. The top half remains the regular screen. The
bottom half uses a red background/white foreground soft cursor to
move from character to character. The reveal codes appear in
square brackets in the bottom half. As you use cursor keys, the
system cursor on top and the red background cursor on the bottom
move together.

SP will display all text with cell 1 where the soft cursor is
located. Reveal codes and text will always appear in the first
cell(s) and the Braille display will scroll left and right as the
cursor keys are used.

If you jump away to read any other area of the bottom half of the
screen, press the concave key twice to return to the reveal codes
cursor (un-link and link.) If you loose soft cursor tracking while
in reveal codes (could be caused by pressing F1 in reveal codes)
just press Alt-3 to return to normal reveal codes operation.

Thesaurus (ALT-F1)

WordPerfect's thesaurus presents a different challenge, because
words are presented in three columns. The first column has a
bold letter next to each word, to indicate that you can select
the word by typing its letter after selecting to replace the word
you have looked up. You can move between columns 1, 2, and 3 with
the right and left arrow keys.

When you press ALT-F1, Screen Power jumps to the beginning of
column 1 to show the first word in column 1. You can jump to the
top of each column with a hotkey command; To jump to the top of
column 1, press ALT-CTRL-W; column 2, press ALT-CTRL-E; and column
3, press ALT-CTRL-R.

If you press the RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW key, which moves the
letter indicators to another column, Screen Power jumps to the
first item in the new active column.

Help (F3)

When you press the Help key (F3), Screen Power goes to the top line.
If you press a function key or letter, WordPefect displays a screen
with an explanation of the function or a list of functions you can
use the unlinked navigation keys to read these screens. Screen
Power automatically jumps back to the top line each time the screen
changes.

Switch (SHIFT-F3)

This is the command to switch from Document 1 to Document 2.
Screen Power will show the word "Switch," when you switch to a
new document.

Bold (F6) and Underline (F8)

Screen Power tells you the attribute or attributes currently
being activated. It will identify the following attributes:

     Normal Text
     Bold On
     Underline On
     Bold and Underline

It does this by checking the attributes of the character at the
end of the status line. Depending on the screen colors and
attributes it sees there, it identifies one of the above
attributes. For example, try the following: Press F6. Screen
Power will show "Bold On." Then type "This is bold." Now press
F6 again. Screen Power will show "Bold Off."

Special Commands

The following are all unique Screen Power commands (hotkeys):

status line, or (2) Reveal Codes screen, in which

F1 If you loose the Braille display in main body of
document, this will restore the environment to its
               "normal" starting condition.
