Use With WordPerfect 6.0

Note: Don't forget to start WordPerfect 6.0 with the /NC option
to avoid hanging the system with Screen Power.

Many of our braille users report that they use WordPerfect more
than any other application program. We recognize that this puts
WordPerfect in a special category and have therefore provided a
special WordPerfect environment file with Screen Power. You
don't need to know anything about environments to use them,
though.

This environment file has comprehensive settings, including many
special Screen Power capabilities, such as hotkeys, windows,
monitors, and macros created specifically for WordPerfect. All
you need to do to use the environment is to load the environment
file. There are two easy ways to do this, either from the DOS
command line or using Screen Power's menu system.

Note: The environment uses WordPerfect's default screen
          colors and settings.

Loading the WordPerfect Environment from DOS

The WordPerfect 6.0 environment filename is WP6.SPB. To load this
file from the DOS command line, use our special utility program
called SPBLOAD. It enables you to load your environments without
going into the menu system:

1. Go to the Screen Power directory (usually \SPB).

2. Type the following (without quotes): "SPBLOAD WP6" (you do
not need to specify the file extension)

You can load the file from the root (or another) directory by
including the proper path. For example, if the WordPerfect
environment file is in the \SPB directory, you should type:
"SPBLOAD \SPB\WP6"

Loading the WordPerfect Environment from the Menu

You can also load your environment from the Screen Power menu
system:

1. Activate the menu system by pressing CTRL-V.

2. From the Main Menu, press G to go into Global Options.

3. Select F for File Options.

4. Select E for Environment Options.

5. Select L to Load an environment. Screen Power says "Enter
     filename."

6. You can either type the name of the environment here or use
the DOWN ARROW key to move through the available
environments. If you want to type the name here, simply
type the letters: WP6. You do not need to specify the
extension, because all Screen Power environments have the
extension SPB. If you use the DOWN ARROW, Screen Power will
display the name of the environment. When you get to
     WP6.SPB, press the ENTER key.

Note: The DOWN ARROW key will only display files that
are in the current directory. If your environment
file is in a different directory, you must enter
               the filename and path directly.

7. Once the environment is loaded, you can press CTRL-Q to exit
     the menu system.

How the Environment Works

The WordPerfect environment includes many hotkeys (customized
commands). Some of the hotkeys activate windows or monitors.
Some activate macros that, in turn, activate other macros. We
will not describe the contents or format of these hotkeys,
windows, monitors, and macros here. This document describes what
the WordPerfect functions will do when the WordPerfect
environment is loaded.

Spell Checking (CTRL-F2)

When you press CTRL-F2 to activate WordPerfect's spell checker,
you need to be able to read the misspelled word highlighted at
the top of the page and the alternate spelling choices in the
suggestion box. Here's what happens:

When you press CTRL-F2, Screen Power shows the word
"Document" at the left edge of the display. This is the
option which is currently highlighted in the speller dialog
box. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW keys to display the other
     choices in the dialog box.

When you make a selection, Screen Power shows the
highlighted misspelled word on the left edge of the display.
The text following the misspelled word is also displayed.
Use the Display Left button to view any text to the left of
     the misspelled word.

To see the correction list, press ALT-1. This moves the
display to the top word in the list. Moving the display
left shows the corresponding letter for this choice. You
can also move the display up to see the "Suggestions: #n of
#n" information and the "Word: xxxxx" reminder. You can now
use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to look at the other words in
the correction list. Press ENTER when you find the word you
     want to select.

NOTE: If you press "4" at this point to edit the word, the
braille display is moved to the system cursor in the text.

When you select a correction, WordPerfect advances to the
next misspelled word, and Screen Power displays it on the
     left edge of the display.

You may have some questions:

Q: How do I re-read the misspelled word?

A: Press ALT-SHIFT-1. This jumps back to the misspelled word
     in the document.

Q: How do jump back to the correction list?

A: Press ALT-1. This moves the braille display to the
     highlighted correction.

Q: How do I re-read the correction list?

A: Use the cursor keys to move up and down through the
correction list. If you are not already on the correction
list, remember to press ALT-1 first.

Q: How do I read the option list?

A: Press Alt-2 to read the option list. Use your display up and
down keys (Not cursor up and down) to review the option
list. Then enter the number of the option you want.

List Files (F5)

When you press F5, ENTER to read your file list, Screen Power
will only show the highlighted filename and its information. As
you use the cursor keys to move through the list, Screen Power
shows each newly selected file information. Press Alt-2 to read
the options list. Use the display up and down keys (Not the cursor
up and down keys) to review the options list. To jump back to the
highlighted file again, press ALT-0.

Reveal Codes (F11 or ALT-F3)

When you activate Reveal Codes, WordPerfect divides the screen
horizontally. The top three quarter remains the regular screen.
The bottom one quarter uses a red background/white foreground soft
cursor to move from character to character. The reveal codes appear
in square brackets in the bottom portion of the screen. As you use
cursor keys, the system cursor on top and the red background cursor
on the bottom move together.

Screen Power will display all text with cell one where the soft
cursor is located. Reveal codes and text will always appear in the
first cell(s) and the braille display will scroll left and right as
the cursor keys are used.

If you move the braille display away from the soft cursor you can
return to the reveal codes cursor by pressing the concave key on the
PB40 twice (navigator, right execute key) to un-link and link the
braille display. If you loose soft cursor tracking while in reveal
codes (can be caused by pressing F1 in reveal codes) just press Alt-3
to return to normal reveal codes operation.

Undelete (Escape)

The undelete pop-up window in WP6 occurs in one of two places on the
screen, either the top of the screen or the bottom of the screen. It
has three options: "Cancel", "Return", and "Previous Deletion." When
it first appears (when you press the escape key, while in the main
body of the document) the braille display goes to the system cursor,
which is on the word "Cancel". From there you can use the cursor
keys to access the other two options. If you prefer the option to be
displayed via soft cursor (i.e. in cell one) you can press Alt-4 or
Alt-7 to synchronize on Blocked text. Alt-4 will synchronize on the
word "Cancel" (in the pop-up menu) if the menu is displayed in the
top half of the screen; if the pop-up menu appears on the bottom half
of the screen press Alt-7.

To see the word which is about to be un-deleted, press the opposite
Hotkey, in other words, if Alt-4 displays the pop-up window, then
Alt-7 will display the undelete word (conversely if Alt-7 displays
the pop-up menu, then Alt-4 will display the undelete word.)

Remember, when you are through (back in the main body of document)
press Alt-0 to use the system cursor again.

Thesaurus (ALT-F1)

WordPerfect's thesaurus presents a different challenge, because
words are presented in three columns.

When you press ALT-F1, WordPerfect displays the Writing Tools
menu. The display shows the word "Cancel" and you must use the
UP and DOWN arrow keys to display the menu choices. When you
have moved to Thesaurus, press ENTER.

When you press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW keys, which moves a
highlight from word to word in the column, Screen Power shows the
highlighted word. If you press the Enter key at a highlighted
word, that word will be further expanded in the column to the
right. To replace text with a highlighted word, press the letter
R.

Note: To read line 24, options in thesaurus, press Alt-space.

Help (F1)

When you press the Help key (F1), Screen Power goes into
WordPerfect's help system. Screen Power shows the selected item
in the help screen, which has a red background. When you press
the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW, Screen Power shows the next selected
help or menu item, which has a red background. When you press
Tab key, the help options soft cursor moves. The help options
are at the bottom of the screen. To track them press Alt-7
(just like in "undelete" - see above.) To return to the help
item, press Alt-4 (again, just link in "undelete".) You can
alternate between help items and help options this way. When
returning to the document, press Alt-0 to use the system cursor
again.

When you have moved to an item of interest, use the braille
display movement keys to read the text area around the selected
item.

Switch (SHIFT-F3)

This is the command to switch from one document to another.
Screen Power will display "Switch," on the braille display.

Bold (F6) and Underline (F8)

Screen Power tells you the attribute or attributes currently
being activated. It will identify the following attributes:

     Normal Text
     Bold On
     Underline On
     Bold and Underline On
     Unknown Text Attributes

It does this by checking the attributes of the end of the status
line. Depending on the screen colors and attributes it sees
there, it identifies one of the above attributes. For example,
try the following: Press F6. Screen Power will show "Bold On."
Then type "This is bold." Now press F6 again. Screen Power will
show "Bold Off."

Special Commands

The following are all unique Screen Power commands (hotkeys):

ALT-SPACEBAR Reads line 25 status line (unless it sees (1) the
View command in the Thesaurus, or (2) the Spell
Checker screens, in which cases it finds the
appropriate status line and displays it.)
ALT-CTRL-T Toggles between system and soft cursor.
ALT-CTRL-A Tells which WordPerfect attribute is active
("Normal Text", "Underlined Text", "Bold Text",
"Bold and Underline Text", or "Unknown Text
               Attributes".)
ALT-CTRL-J Jumps braille display to system cursor temporarily
ALT-CTRL-; Routes system cursor to braille display
ALT-HOME Moves display to upper left corner of screen
ALT-END Moves display to lower right corner of screen

NOTE: Due to the complex screen layouts in WordPerfect 6.0,
occasionally, you may get a blank display or notice that the
display is not responding to cursor movement commands. Press
ALT-0 to reactivate full screen standard cursor tracking mode.
In most cases, Screen Power will then reset itself for the
correct tracking methods.

Other Notes

1) Screen Power has a monitoring "peculiarity": Most applications strip out
all but the background attribute on any blank space, therefore Screen Power
assumes that there are no foreground attributes associated with blank
spaces. However, Word Perfect DOES assign attributes to the foreground of
ALL spaces. Because of this, if you set a Monitor to survey a region of
the screen for a foreground, blinking, or highlighting attribute, Screen
Power will not trigger the monitor on a blank space. The same is true of
Soft Cursor Tracking. For example; the braille display will go completely
blank when soft cursor tracking is set to both a foreground and a
background color attribute and the cursor is setting on a blank space.
When there is text present at the cursor location everything works
normally. The solution is to monitor for only a background attribute.
This however can cause other problems, such as: a monitor will trigger
anytime the specified background appears (at the correct location), in
spite of the fact that it is not the item you wish to monitor.

Please note that this phenomena occurs most often with Word Perfect 6.0,
which makes extensive use of pop-up windows. Pop-up windows have a white
background with many spaces in the foreground. For example, while
monitoring for a white background only (to detect the presence of a pop-up
window), the appearance of underlined text (blue on white) may trigger the
monitor. Here are some suggested alternatives to this dilemma:

          A. Only use Word Perfect text-appearance-codes that have the
background color you wish to monitor.

          B. If a monitor is accidentally triggered by this event and the
braille display goes blank, keep a Hotkey handy which will reset
things to normal. In the WP6 environment that Hotkey is Alt-0
               (Alt-zero).

          C. You may wish to change the Word Perfect Text-Appearance-Codes for
certain kinds of text which use the background color the monitor
               is looking for.
