Using Screen Power Integrated With WordPerfect 6.0

Many of our braille and speech users report that they use WordPerfect more
than any other application program. We recognize that this puts WordPerfect
in a special category and have therefore provided a special WordPerfect
environment file with Screen Power. You don't need to know anything about
environments to use them, though.

This environment file has comprehensive settings, including many special
Screen Power capabilities, such as hotkeys, windows, monitors, and macros
created specifically for WordPerfect. All you need to do to use the
environment is to load the environment file. There are two easy ways to do
this, either from the DOS command line or using Screen Power's menu system.

Note: The environment uses WordPerfect's default screen colors and
          settings.

Loading the WordPerfect Environment from DOS:

The WordPerfect environment filename is WP6.SPI. To load this file from the
DOS command line, use our special utility program called SPILOAD. It enables
you to load your environments without going into the menu system:

1. Go to the Screen Power directory (usually \SPI).

2. Type the following (without quotes): "SPILOAD WP6" (you do not need to
     specify the file extension).

You can load the file from the root (or another) directory by including the
proper path. For example, if the WordPerfect environment file is in the \SPI
directory, you should type:

"SPILOAD \SPI\WP6"

Loading the WordPerfect Environment from the Menu:

You can also load your environment from the Screen Power menu system:

1. Activate the menu system by pressing CTRL-V.

2. From the Main Menu, press G to go into Global Options.

3. Select F for File Options.

4. Select E for Environment Options.

5. Select L to Load an environment. Screen Power says "Enter filename."

6. You can either type the name of the environment here or use the DOWN
ARROW key to move through the available environments. If you want to
type the name here, simply type the letters: WP6. You do not need to
specify the extension, because all Screen Power environments have the
extension SPI. If you use the DOWN ARROW, Screen Power will display and
speak the name of the environment. When you get to WP6.SPI, press the
     ENTER key.

Note: The DOWN ARROW key will only display files that are in the
current directory. If your environment file is in a different
directory, you must enter the filename and path directly.

7. Once the environment is loaded, you can press CTRL-Q to exit the
     menu system.

How the Environment Works:

The WordPerfect environment includes many hotkeys (customized commands).
Some of the hotkeys activate windows or monitors. Some activate macros that,
in turn, activate other macros. We will not describe the contents or format
of these hotkeys, windows, monitors, and macros here. This document
describes what the WordPerfect functions will do when the WordPerfect
environment is loaded.

General Usage:

WordPerfect 6.0 uses pop-up screens called dialog boxes for most functions.
The Screen Power environment tries to catch each dialog box when it appears
and reads the contents of the box. It starts by reading the selected (red
background) item in the dialog box, then reads the entire dialog box
(everything with a white background.)

You can move from item to item in a dialog box using the UP, DOWN, LEFT,
RIGHT and TAB keys. When you use the UP and DOWN keys, Screen Power reads
the selected item and the shows it at the left edge of the braille display.

If you use the LEFT and RIGHT keys to move from item to item, Screen Power
says the short-cut key (the key you would press to immediately select that
item) of the selected item and shows the item at the left edge of the braille
display.

The TAB key will move from item to item with no speech and shows the selected
item on the left edge of the braille display.

Whenever you leave a dialog box, Screen Power says "Edit Mode." Screen Power
also say "Edit Mode" when you chose to edit the misspelled word in Spell
Check or view the document in the Thesaurus.

Spell Checking (CTRL-F2)

When you press CTRL-F2 to activate WordPerfect's spell checker, you need to
be able to read the misspelled word highlighted at the top of the page and
the alternate spelling choices in the suggestion box. Here's what happens:

When you press CTRL-F2, Screen Power first reads the dialog box to you and
the braille display shows the currently selected item. Here you select word,
page, document, etc. with the UP and DOWN ARROW keys.

When you make that selection, Screen Power first reads and spells the
highlighted misspelled word in the top half of the screen. The braille moves
to the first entry in the suggested spellings list. Use the cursor keys to
read the corrections offered in the suggestion box.

When you select a correction, WordPerfect advances to the next misspelled
word, and Screen Power reads and spells it and moves the display back to the
top of the new correction list.

You may have some questions:

Q: How do I read the status line after I hear the corrections?

A: Press ALT-SPACE. We set a hotkey, ALT-SPACE, to read any status line in
     WordPerfect.

Q: How do I re-read the misspelled word with speech?

A: Press ALT-1. This says Window 1, which reads only red background text
in lines 1 through 11. Press ALT-SHIFT-1 to say and spell the
     misspelled word.

Q: How do I read the misspelled word with braille?

A: Select option 4, Edit Word. The braille display will jump to the
misspelled word and the cursor will be under the first letter. If you
like you can correct the word here or press F7 to return to the
     correction list.

Q: How do I re-read the correction list?

A: Press ALT-2 to hear to the entire correction list. Press ALT-SHIFT-2 to
hear the entire correction list spoken and spelled. Use the cursor keys
to move up and down through the correction list one word at a time with
     braille and
     speech.

Q: How do I read the option list?

A: Press Alt-CTRL-SPACEBAR to hear the option list. Note that the braille
display does not jump with the speech. You must manually move the
braille display to read the options list. If the display is on a
suggested word, advance once (with the right button key on Power Braille
     40) and use the display up and down keys to read the option list.

List Files (F5)

When you press F5, ENTER to read your file list, Screen Power will only read
the highlighted filename and its information. After a short pause, it will
begin to read the entire File Management screen. As you use the cursor keys
to move through the list, Screen Power reads only each newly selected file
information. To hear the highlighted file again, press ALT-5 to read window
5. Press Alt-CTRL-SPACEBAR to read the options list.

Reveal Codes (F11 or ALT-F3)

When you activate Reveal Codes, WordPerfect divides the screen horizontally.
The top portion remains the regular screen. The bottom portion uses a red
background soft cursor to move from character to character. As you use
cursor keys, the system cursor on top and the red background cursor on the
bottom move together.

When you turn Reveal Codes on, Screen Power says "reveal codes on." The
braille display follows the soft cursor on the bottom part of the screen
(lines 21 through 24). Speech follows the system cursor in the top part of
the screen. Reveal codes will be displayed in braille only.

Press ALT-3 to hear the highlighted Reveal Code or press ALT-CTRL-T to toggle
the speech soft cursor tracking. Remember to toggle it back when you are
done.

Thesaurus (ALT-F1)

WordPerfect's thesaurus presents a different challenge, because words are
presented in three columns.

When you press ALT-F1, WordPerfect puts the Writing Tools dialog box on the
screen. Select item 2, "Thesaurus." After the thesaurus is started, Screen
Power does the following things:

1. It reads first highlighted (red background) word at the top of the list
for the word you are looking up.

2. It reads the whole thesaurus dialog box, leaving out the highlighted
     word.

3. It shows the suggested word on the braille display. As you use the
cursor keys to navigate the thesaurus columns, Screen Power says the new
highlighted word and shows it on the braille display.

Screen Power has windows to read each of the three thesaurus columns. Read
column 1 by pressing ALT-CTRL-W. Read column 2 by pressing ALT-CTRL-E. Read
column 3 by pressing ALT-CTRL-R. To hear the word being evaluated press ALT-
1, the speak and spell it press ALT-SHIFT-1.

Help (F1)

When you press the Help key (F1), Screen Power goes into WordPerfect's help
system. As the help screens change, Screen Power reads all the text with a
white background. The braille display moves to the first highlighted item on
the screen. When you press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW Screen Power reads the
selected help or menu item and shows the item at the left edge of the braille
display.

At the bottom of each help screen is a list of options. Press ALT-CTRL-SPACE
to hear the options. To read the options with braille, you need to toggle
the soft cursor tracking from top down to bottom up. Press ALT-CTRL-H to
change soft cursor tracking from top down to bottom up. Use the tab key to
move to a new option. The selected option appears on the left edge of the
braille display. Press ALT-CTRL-G to change soft cursor tracking back to top
down.

Search (F2 or SHIFT F2 or ALT-F2)

When you first use search, the search string is empty and the braille display
does not show anything. To display the prompt, press ALT-CTRL-Y to switch
the braille display to system cursor tracking. To switch back to soft cursor
tracking, press ALT-CTRL-Y again.

Undelete (ESC)

When you press the ESCAPE to undelete text, Screen Power reads the Undelete
dialog box. To read the marked text to be restored, press ALT-4. ALT-4
reads all text with a red background and white foreground. ALT-4 also reads
blocked text.

Blocked Text (ALT-F4 or F12)

Press ALT-4 to read the any blocked text on the screen. ALT-4 reads all text
with a red background and white foreground.

Switch (SHIFT-F3)

This is the command to switch from one document to another. Screen Power
says "editing" then reads the current line from the left edge to the cursor
in the new document.

Indent (F4)

Screen Power says "Indent."

Double Indent (SHIFT-F4)

This is the command that indents equally from both the right and left
margins. Screen Power says "Double Indent."

Center (SHIFT-F6)

Screen Power says "Center."

Flush Right (ALT-F6)

Screen Power says "Flush Right."

Bold (F6) and Underline (F8)

Screen Power tells you the attribute or attributes currently being activated.
It will identify the following attributes:

     Normal Text
     Bold Text
     Underline Text
     Bold and Underline Text

It does this by checking the attributes of the end of the status line.
Depending on the screen colors and attributes it sees there, it identifies
one of the above attributes. For example, try the following: Press F6.
Screen Power will say "Bold text." Then type "This is bold." Now press F6
again. Screen Power will say "Normal text."

To read all bold text on the editing screen, press ALT-6 to read window 6.
To read all underlined text on the editing screen, press ALT-8 to read window
8.

Cursor Movement Keys

by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER. Then press F1. Screen Power will announce the
version of the environment file.

Other Notes

1) Due to the complex screen layouts in WordPerfect 6.0, occasionally, you
may get a blank display or notice that the display is not responding to
cursor movement commands. Press ALT-CTRL-Q to reactivate full screen
standard cursor tracking mode. In most cases, Screen Power will then
reset itself for the correct tracking methods.

Note: This is a change from the WordPerfect 5.1 environment. In WP 5.1
ALT-0 was used to reset the environments.

If you are trying to read a dialog box, press ALT-7. This will read any
     text with a white background.

2) Occasionally the speech will not read text when you press the first key
after exiting a dialog box. This is normal. Screen Power detects the
key press and resets it's monitors so that subsequent keys will read
     text.

3) A bug in the monitor feature may cause certain application environments
to accidently trigger monitors at the wrong time. This happens most
noticeably in the WordPerfect 6.0 environment when any marked text with
a white background appears on the screen. This causes the monitor which
reads dialog boxes to activate, turning off cursor tracking. To prevent
or correct this, use one of the following methods:

          A. Avoid using WordPerfect text appearance codes that have a
               white background.

          B. If you must use codes that have a white background, press
ALT-CTRL-Q to reset cursor tracking when the monitor turns it
               off.

          C. Change your text attributes so that the text appearance codes
do not use a white background. This may prevent verbalization
of the underline codes when you use the Turn Underline On and
               Off commands in WordPerfect.
